For parents
Is my child’s data safe with ContextFriend?
ContextFriend runs on a server in your school and helps the class revisit lessons. This page explains the rules: what is stored, who has access and when content is deleted. Your school tells you which features it has switched on.
What does it hear — and what does it keep?
The teacher activates selected parts of a lesson. These become learning notes about topics, examples and tasks. Teachers can review, correct or delete notes at any time.
- There is no audio archive. Voices are never stored as audio files, and unprocessed text is discarded after filtering, within five minutes at most.
- There is no camera and no face recognition.
- Names and personal content are filtered before storage. Filters can make mistakes; teachers can review, correct or delete notes. There are no voiceprints and no personal speaker directories.
- There is no automated performance assessment and no assessment of teachers.
- The school sets the retention period for learning notes, materials and saved questions; by default they are deleted at the end of the school year. Audio and raw text are never stored permanently.
Does my child’s data go to ChatGPT or another cloud AI?
No. Lesson content is never sent to external AI services, and it is never used to train models.
Speech recognition, filtering, search and AI run on the school server. There is no external AI service and no automatic cloud fallback.
Do we need a permission slip?
The school informs parents and learners before use. Whether consent is required depends on the purpose and legal basis. Voluntary features require a real choice and an equivalent alternative without disadvantage. You receive the parent guide and your school’s completed privacy notice.
What if we do not want this for our child?
Contact the school. It explains the legal basis and your rights. Declining voluntary use must not cause a disadvantage. If a voice must not be captured, the school must arrange an alternative that genuinely avoids capture; simply not creating an account is not enough.
Who can inspect this?
The school stays in control of the data. The data protection officer can check what is stored on site, without sending anything to us.
Still have a question?
Write to us, or ask your school’s data protection officer — they can check everything on site.
