Class memory: questions and answers
ContextFriend gives a class a memory to return to after the lesson ends. These answers explain what it does, how people use it and what a school needs to agree before a pilot.
Reviewed:
What is class memory?
Class memory is a way to revisit what a class covered after the lesson ends. ContextFriend uses available lesson material to prepare summaries and help teachers and students ask questions, revisit explanations and practise. It is a product of TamerinTECH GmbH in Schliersee, Germany.
What happens after the lesson has ended?
After lesson processing, the available material can become summaries and a basis for questions and practice in the web app. Day summaries follow the school’s configured schedule; they are not guaranteed to appear the moment the bell rings.
How does ContextFriend help teachers?
Teachers can return to the topics, explanations, examples and homework mentioned in class, and add useful worksheets or documents. Summaries support preparation for the next lesson. They do not score or rank teachers.
Can students use class memory at home?
Yes, when the school enables home access. Students use the school’s class link and access code on a phone, tablet or laptop. They can read summaries, ask for another explanation and practise with questions. No extra ContextFriend device is needed at home.
Can students practise rather than only read a summary?
Yes. Learning mode asks a short question based on available class material, responds to the student’s typed answer and helps them continue practising. The landing page uses fictional examples from mathematics, physics, chemistry and biology, not real pupil records.
What does the classroom device do?
The small classroom device listens during the agreed lesson times. It stays in the background, with no screen, lights or sound. Teachers and students return to the class memory through a separate web app.
Does it take pictures of the whiteboard?
No. The classroom device has no camera. Material only written or drawn on the board needs to be explained aloud or added as teaching material. The diagrams on this website illustrate a lesson; they do not show automatic camera capture.
Does it replace a teacher or always give the right answer?
No. ContextFriend supports teachers and works with available lesson material. AI can make mistakes or miss information. General explanations are marked separately from material from class; important points should be checked with the teacher.
How is class memory different from a general AI chatbot?
The starting point is the material from a particular class: its explanations, examples and assignments. A general chatbot does not know what happened in that lesson unless the material is provided. ContextFriend helps a class return to its own context, while distinguishing additional general explanations.
Is ContextFriend encrypted?
Yes. All data is encrypted, in storage and in transit: the database, materials, learning notes, logs and backups on the school server, and every connection between the classroom device, the server and the web app. Passwords, tokens and access codes are stored only as secure hashes.
What about GDPR / DSGVO compliance?
ContextFriend is built for GDPR / DSGVO: all processing takes place on the school’s own server, access follows roles, and the school sets the retention periods. Before use, each school agrees the legal basis, access and retention for its setup and informs families. Details are in the school privacy information.
Where is classroom data processed, and how long is it kept?
On a server in your school. Speech recognition, filtering, summaries, search and AI run locally; there is no cloud and no external AI service. Voices are never stored as audio files, and raw text is discarded after filtering. The school sets the retention period for learning content; by default it is deleted at the end of the school year. The school’s privacy information tells families who has access and when material is deleted.
Who can access a class memory?
Only people with the class link and code can open a class memory. Students and teachers have separate codes. Teachers see their own chats; administrator functions such as the timetable and access codes are reserved for administrators. Each class is isolated from every other class, and TamerinTECH has no standing access to school data.
How can a school start, and what does it cost?
Start with a pilot enquiry. We discuss the school’s teaching needs, technical setup, access and data-protection requirements before agreeing the scope. Public fixed pricing is not currently listed.
